Ode to My Mama’s Boots
In case you missed it, I am all about the animals! Not only are they my friends and not food but I have also made it a point to not purchase any ‘new’ leather in the past five years. I am not writing this blog post from my soapbox by any means, but in my eyes the rise of veganism and the universal adoption of dairy alternatives (namely milk alternatives), leads me to question whether leather is still a byproduct of the meat and dairy industry or whether it is has now become a co-product. I could definitely benefit from more research into the topic, so I assure you I am not trying to be preachy, but with the exception of indulging in some cheddar every once in a while, my preference is to generally stay away from most things ‘animal’.
That being said, I am of the opinion that reusing and re-wearing clothes and shoes that already exist and have existed for a long time before I was here, is far more ethical and sustainable than contributing to the production of new apparel. This is why, even as a devout animal lover, my Mum’s 25 year old brown, calf-length, Clarks heeled boots have and will remain my most cherished wardrobe staple.
These boots have had SO much wear that I have recently only just got them back from the cobbler- side note: support your local cobbler! They’re still a little scuffed but the soles are no longer flapping off, so I thought I would share some of the ways I have styled them this month.
Live, Laugh, Love and shout out to my mama and Rachel Green who are my forever style icons. xx
